17 tigers deaths reported so far in 2017 within Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh is witnessing a high tiger mortality with 10 already dead in the first four months of 2017. Is the state really the place for tigers? Madhya Pradesh, home to the second highest population of tigers in India, is witnessing an increasing number of tiger deaths in recent times. The state which housed 308 tigers (all Royal Bengal tigers) according to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) 2014 tiger census—second only to Uttarakhand which has 340 tigers—has lost 51 tigers since January 2015.
