Electrocution the scouge of Indian wildlife

Yet another tiger is electrocuted by farmers in Vidarbha trying to stop herbivores from entering their fields and eating crops.  In some districts farmers erect high voltage electric fencing around their farms to protect crops, and sometimes tigers become its victims. Sadly two tigers have met the same death this month alone.  A Forest dept. official has stated that an effort will be made to educate farmers to use solar energy and chain link fencing to discourage the herbivors from leaving the forest and eating crops. Furthermore it has been suggested that if farmers would change their crop patterns to minimise the destruction to their crops by herbivores, like wild boars and nilgai the problem might ease.   More on this story by following the link to the Indian Express.
