Lao commits to shut down its commercial tiger farms

A step in the right direction. In a move welcomed by conservation groups, Sommad Pholsena, Lao PDR’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, announced last Friday that the country was “looking for ways to phase out tiger farms”. The announcement was made during the 67th Meeting of the Standing Committee to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Lets hope that China and other Asian countries take note of this forward thinking decision.  See link below to read the story in Mongabay.
