Ranthambhore's isolation causes concern over inbreeding.
On a recent study by the Wildlife Institute of India concern was expressed over the inbreeding of tigers at Ranthambhore and Sariska in Rajasthan. As this group of tigers are isolated from tigers in other parts of the Indian sub-continent the worry is that the gene pool is diluted and the risk of extinction of tigers in Rajasthan becomes a possibilty. However the study also point out that to date '>Tigers in Rajasthan are unique and it is surprising that even after inbreeding no deficiency of any sort can be seen in these tigers'.
