
Urgent steps are being taken to save tigers from lethal virus

Following the death of 23 lions in the Gir sanctuary in less than 1 month the National Tiger Conservation Authority has instructed all chief wildlife wardens in the tiger range states to take urgent action to save the animals from the canine distemper virus (CDV). The chief wildlife wardens have been instructed to begin the immunization of both domestic and feral cats and dogs in their respective areas. At Pilibhit tiger reserve officials are planning to launch the immunization programme in 100 villages located near to the tiger reserve as an initial phase.
