Although an extremely sad situation with a villager being killed by a tiger- the villagers should not have been in the core area of park collecting wood. Depressing figures released on the number of tigers that have been poached in 2013. In all probabilty these figures are on the low side as I feel sure that many such cases have gone undetected by the authorities. In my view the answer to the ongoing problem is threefold. 1. Stiffer custodial sentences to those convicted of tiger poaching. 2. The Sumatran Tiger, on the brink of extinction, to get a new conservation zone. However in my opinion the cost of the new 'conservation zone' would be better spent on giving the remaining number of wild tigers and other indigenous wildlife increased protection from poachers and loggers.
